"Veterans and Community Information Outreach Center"

NEWS - On Tuesday the 26th Jan. 2010 the Old Golf Club pro shop opened once again for veterans

Veterans! Are you getting the services available to you?

If needed, you can join up for the Food Bank too.

The VeCIOC event scheduled for Tuesday 26 Jan 2010 from 12:00 to 15:00 was attended by about 100 persons and served both veterans and seniors. Please see the result on the "Event_Jan10" page

We expect to continue providing this service on the FOURTH TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH; phone 910-284-9169 for updates!

The Sanctuary Project plans to renovate three existing buildings to provide Veterans services for an Internet Cafeteria; a Lending Library; a Thrift Store with Clothing Bank; a Mechanic's Shop; Accounting Services for tax returns and a Notary Public, all aimed at providing Veterans with services at minimal cost. The Sanctuary Project therefore needs donations of hardware, construction materials and furnishings to achieve this renovation. Please let us know if you know of any Federal, State, University, Hospital or Military organizations that might be upgrading or renovating their facilities and could donate the old equipment and fittings for this Veterans Service Center.

Among other plans The Sanctuary Project expects to address the needs of Veterans through Transitional Housing within the next few months.

Please give Kip Tomkin a call at 910-284-9169 with any questions or suggestions. The Sanctuary Project VeCIOC workshop is to be held at the new Sanctuary Project site the Old Magnolia Golf Course premises 250 yards from I-40 Exit 373 direction Magnolia. The exact address is 171 Country Club Lane, Magnolia, NC-28453 and the time is Tuesday 26th Jan at The Sanctuary Project site from 12:00 to 15:00 in the afternoon..

Please come early and come prepared with suitable identification papers, pay stubs and similar documentation so staff can move immediately forward with your case. Refreshments and some snacks will be available.

You can also contact the organizations in advance to determine special requirements for your case. You can also volunteer your time and driving to help The Sanctuary Project help others less fortunate to improve their lives.

(Click to enlarge) This is a huge composite aerial photograph dating from about 1993 while the I-40 was still under construction. The proximity of the Sanctuary Project land to exit 373 is clearly shown.

The outlines indicate the extent of the land (about 130 acres) and adjacent land (about 60 acres).  The dark wooded areas mainly indicate wetland; the black areas indicate water.

The land is flanked on two sides by the NC-903 and Tracy Brown Rd.. Brooks Quinn lane provides access to the second side of the neighboring 60 acres.

The Sanctuary Project land offers these advantages:

  • LOCATION: A perfect location with 135 acres right by I-40 exit 373 makes for easy access.
  • TRAFFIC: I-40 interchange with NC-24 has a large traffic flow. See AADT figures
  • HOTEL: A new hotel with 90 rooms is shortly starting construction by Exit 373 (Kenansville side)
  • WATERFRONT: Cleared golf course land with beautiful lake front, ideal for commercial & residential development.
  • ZONING: No zoning; all official bodies have indicated their full approval for the proposed uses.
  • UPGRADE: NC 24 upgrade to four lanes is due completion by 2013.
  • WATER: The municipal water pipes run alongside the property. There is a spring flowing 24/7 at 6,000 gallons a day. When pumped it produces over 100,000 gallons  per day of clean drinking water.
  • SEWER: The town of Magnolia has a recently upgraded sewage plant that can handle 260,000 per day. Present use is 80,000 per day.
