JUNIOR
TOURNAMENT DECEMBER 2003 -
Once
again our luck at Magnolia held- the weather was excellent for both days;
the promised rain on the second day did not materialize and the day finished
sunny and clear. The contestants are here for all to see - some will notice
that their complexion has miraculously improved - this is what happens when you
are nice to the cameraman- We thank Josh Taylor of Rose Hill for the photos..
All are in alphabetical order of first name. Of course we tried to get everyone
- but if we have no photo - you cannot be here! Click on the first image to

Magnolia Golf Club held the
Holiday Junior Golf Classic of 2003 originally started by the respected golf pro
Mr Lewis Smither II for the fifth year running. As the contestants flocked in on
day one, from as far away as Canada to compete for the title, a dreary weather
forecast proved to be nothing more than a threat. The two-day marathon was to be
just as challenging as ever.
The winners were Ages 15-18
Eddie Brock Jr, 143; Ages 13-14 Rich Leeper 165; Ages 11-12 John Livingstone
152; Ages 10 and under Larry Han 145.
Several local businesses and
golf courses in Wilmington showed an active interest in this year's tournament
at Magnolia Golf Club by providing its contestants with a generous array of
gifts such as rounds of golf from the increasingly popular Lakes Golf Course,
The Cape Golf and Racquet Club and also the beautiful Magnolia Greens Golf
Plantation.
Pro Golf, one of Wilmington's
newest and most exclusive golf stores and the well known Four Season Trophy
contributed by sponsoring excellent prizes and trophies. Volvik Inc. (Florida)
handsomely contributed by supplying sleeves of balls for the contestants.
WRNS radio station out of
Kinston, went out of their way to help promote the tournament while back home an
as yet undiscovered photographer Josh Taylor from Rose Hill dedicated two days
to "catching the moment" at Magnolia Golf Club.
Ms Diane Williams and her
husband Jim prepared scrumptious food and cooked for the players and their
dedicated parents. Diane has earlier received an honorary membership to Magnolia
Golf Club for similar good work .
The Country
Squire in Kenansville and the Holiday Inn Express in Wallace provided special
rates for the families and the famous Duplin Winery gave away free tours and
wine.
Magnolia's golf pro and expert superintendent
are directly responsible for
the excellent condition of the course, its superb greens and increasing
popularity.
Magnolia Golf Club held
nineteen tournaments during its first year under new management and is expected
to continue this success in 2004.
The overall consensus was that
Magnolia is a fun and challenging course, providing
a golfer with inspiration and enthusiasm for the game. Everyone who attended the
tournament was delighted with the Southern hospitality and promised to come back
again soon having discovered once again that there's more than meets the eye in
Duplin County North Carolina.
